If your property has a legal suite - like a basement suite or a separate carriage house - you can request larger or extra carts to better manage your household waste. Below are the options available for both attached and detached legal suites.
Submit requests to the Operations department (contact info is below) or complete the Cart Exchange Request Form (coming soon!). Requests are subject to review and approval by the Roads Manager.
The default is 2 shared carts - 1 garbage cart and 1 organics cart shared between the main home and the suite. Choose from:
Option 1 (default): 240L garbage + 120L organics
Option 2: 240L garbage + 80L organics
Alternatively, you can request separate carts for each unit - 4 carts (2 garbage, 2 organics) by contacting the Operations department at operations@northcowichan.ca or 250-746-3106.
A staff member will check if there’s enough space at your curb to place all 4 carts at least 1 metre apart.
If approved, you’ll follow the same cart options as detached suites (see below).
If the carts aren’t set out properly on collection day, pickup may be skipped. Ongoing issues could result in switching back to the 2-cart setup.
