You may be a non-resident property elector if you own property in North Cowichan but live elsewhere.
To vote as a Non-Resident Property Elector (NRPE), you must meet all of the following qualifications:
- Be 18 years of age or older on the day of registration
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Have lived in British Columbia for at least six (6) months
- Have been a registered owner of real property in North Cowichan for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration
- Not be entitled to register as a resident elector in North Cowichan
- Not be registered as a non-resident property elector in relation to any other parcel of real property in North Cowichan
- If applicable, have received the written consent of the majority of registered owners of the real property
- Be an individual who is a registered owner of the real property and not hold the property in trust for a corporation or another trust
- Not be disqualified from voting under the Local Government Act or any other enactment
- Not have voted previously in this election
Non-Resident Property Elector - Registration
North Cowichan maintains its own register of non-resident property electors. This register becomes the official list of non‑resident property electors for North Cowichan on the 52nd day before voting day, being August 26, 2026.

How to register
To register as a non‑resident property elector, you must complete:
To ensure your name is included on the official list of electors, you must register by 4pm on August 18, 2026.
Important dates
- August 18, 2026 (4pm) - Deadline to register for inclusion on the final register
- August 25, 2026 - Last day advance non‑resident property elector registrations will be accepted by North Cowichan
- August 26, 2026 - Official register is established (52nd day before voting day)
Non‑resident property elector registrations will not be accepted between August 26 and October 19, 2026, but will be accepted on voting days, provided eligibility requirements are met.
Missed the deadline?
If you didn’t register by August 18 but meet all non‑resident property elector eligibility requirements, you can still register at the time you vote.
