  • A permit is a prerequisite for new fireplace and chimney construction or installations.
  • For solid fuel-burning appliances such as wood and pellet stoves, compliance is ensured through a certified WETT inspection report.

The BC Fire Code (BCFC) is a provincial regulation containing technical requirements for the construction, use or demolition of buildings and facilities and the design, construction and use of specific elements of facilities related to certain fire hazards, and protection measures for the current or intended use of buildings.

Once a building permit has been approved a fee slip will be provided for payment. 

Important information about permits

Inspections are required at various stages of your project. It is the responsibility of the applicant/owner to contact the Building Department to arrange a site visit to confirm completion of the project and obtain final approval.
