DESCRIPTION:

Under contract with the Municipality of North Cowichan, C-1 Contractors Ltd. are scheduled to begin road construction for the Genoa Bay Road rehabilitation project starting June 30, 2026, to November 2026.

Genoa Bay Village businesses will remain accessible.

During this period, you may experience:

Canada Avenue

DATE:May 25, 2026 to spring 2027
HOURS OF WORK:Monday to Saturday, 7am to 8pm
LOCATION:Canada Avenue from Sherman Road to Beverly Street
DESCRIPTION:

Construction includes extensive utility, road, and trail improvements along Canada Avenue between Sherman Road and Beverly Street within both North Cowichan and the City of Duncan boundaries.

During the first stage of construction:

  • Northbound on Canada Ave will be single lane one-way from Beverly Street to Philip Street.
  • Southbound on Canada Avenue – closed south of Philip Street - traffic to detour on Philip Street. See attached map.

As work advances, traffic patterns may change to single lane alternating traffic, as needed, with signage and traffic control persons in place. Additional road work notices will be issued when traffic control measures substantially change.

Expect traffic delays and afford yourself extra travel time through the work zone.

While most work will take place during regular working hours, some work may need to extend into the evening until 8:00 pm or on a Saturday, as set out in the North Cowichan's Noise Bylaw.
